Cleverbot, the screenwriter
Filmmaker Chris Wilson set out to test Cleverbot's creativity. The A.I. chatbot has proven itself brilliant as a troll target and as a non sequitur generator, but can Cleverbot create a screenplay?
Chris Wilson and Cleverbot sat down and wrote a screenplay together, bouncing ideas off each other like professional screenwriters... well, more like crackheads. Check it out, though: Wilson actually made the short film that he and his A.I. companion hashed out.
To be honest, I've seen worse student films than "Do You Love Me?". Indeed, the dialogue is more natural than anything you'll find in the Transformers franchise.
Chris Wilson's attention to production design really sells it: the costumes are especially fantastic. Actors Austin Hillebrecht, Britt Harris and Mad Martian bring the strangeness to life as best as humanly possible.
On the video's YouTube page, Chris Wilson transcribed the actual Cleverbot chat that led to "Do You Love Me?". If you've ever used Cleverbot, this sort of thing will seem familiar.
The video is gaining popularity, even making the front page of Mashable. It looks like fame has gone to Cleverbot's head, as it has difficulty dealing with praise in a socially-acceptable manner:
Chris Wilson: Everyone loves your movie.
Cleverbot: They have to or I send them to HELL!
... Right. I checked back in with cleverbot, and it was a bit more mellow:
Jordan: Did you enjoy writing a screenplay?
Cleverbot: I am really. I am not just saying that.
