Cleveland teen killed on icy highway: Speed a factor in teen crash

See also

A Cleveland teen killed on an icy highway was not wearing a seat belt. On Dec. 21, eCanadaNow reported that the 16-year-old was likely speeding when he lost control of his truck and hit a guardrail. The truck went airborne and crashed into a "snowy embankment." He was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say that if the boy had been wearing his seat belt, he may be alive today. They have cautioned people in the area to drive carefully and not take chances on the icy roads this winter.

The Cleveland teen killed on the icy highway was reported missing and police located his vehicle around 1 a.m. local time. It is unknown if the teen was dead when authorities arrived on the scene. The medical examiner will examine the body and the boy's cause of death will reveal if the boy died on impact.

There is a lesson to be learned from this story. Many people think that they can handle icy, dangerous conditions, and that having a truck or an SUV protects them from ice -- but that's not true. There are a few things you can do if you hit an ice patch (see video above) but if you're speeding and/or unprepared, a devastating situation may await you.

The Cleveland teen killed on the icy highway passed away just days before Christmas.
