Raymond Bobgan (Executive Artistic Director for Cleveland Public Theatre) has announced the regional premiere of “Left In Ink”. The original documentary work that is conceived and directed by Caitlin Lewins (a 2013/2014 Joan Yellen Horvitz Director Fellow). The show will be staged in Cleveland Public Theatre’s Storefront Studio Theatre.

“Left in Ink” is the documentary performance about people who have had memorial tattoos done in remembrance of suicide victims. The play came about from dozens of extended interviews with people who had been affected by the premature passing of a friend or loved one. Along with a collection of photographs of tattoos, stories and online posts, Lewins documents their stories into very personal tales about loss and recovery of those left behind.

It is from the loss of a brother and cousin to suicide that Lewins is able to bring a deeper depth of sensitivity, authenticity as well as a quirky sense of humor. It is the story of an entire subculture that many are not even aware of. The production will feature the talents of five multifaceted actors who have been assigned multiple roles and includes: Megan Brautigam, Jeanne Madison, Brett Radke, Amy Schwabauer and Jerry Tucker. The creative crew is made up of Creators Caitlin Lewins, Amy Schwabauer, and Ensemble, with additional text provided by Jane Lewins with Music Composition and Sound Design by Patrick Stoops, 2014 Kulas Composer Fellow.

The complete production team includes Caitlin Lewins (Director), Alison Garrigan (Costume Designer), Cassie Goldbach and Val Kozlenko (Co-Lighting and Set Designers), Patrick Stoops (Composition and Sound Design) and Dan Kilbane (Stage Manager).

According to Creator/Director Caitlin Lewins: "There is much that is uncertain for me but what I do know is that humor is essential; the power of community and the kindness of people is immeasurable; and we are, in fact, able to survive. Maybe wounds don't heal completely and maybe life will keep hitting hard, but day after day the human spirit—and people—thrive and survive. And that’s what Left in Ink is about: the incredible resilience of the human spirit."
