CLYBOURNE PARK

In 1959, the groundbreaking classic play “A Raisin In the Sun” ends with the Younger family purchasing a house in an all-white Chicago suburb. As “Clybourne Park” opens it recreates the scene as nervous neighbors attempt to talk their friends out of selling their home to a black family. As this scene fades and a new scene appears it is 50 years later.
Now it is black neighbors in the predominantly African-American neighborhood trying to talk their friends from selling that same home to a white couple. This long and hard look at life is right out of the newspapers. The Washington Post described Clybourne Park as “one of the feistiest, funniest evenings in years.”

America’s greatest living tap dance legend, Maurice Hines, backed by a sizzling nine-piece orchestra, stars in this explosive world premiere. A celebration of Mr. Hines’s showbiz forerunners, including Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, and Nat King Cole, this feel-good show will have you tap’in through the night. At a recent concert version of Tap’in, The New York Times described Hines as “an effusively good-natured dancer... who twitches with an uncontrollable urge to swoop and tap. You might say he is driven by a compulsion to swing.”
