Cleveland Orchestra introduces new Chief Development Officer Jon Limbacher

Jon Limbacher is the new Chief Development Officer of The Cleveland Orchestra.  Mr. Limbacher joined the Orchestra on January 30, 2012.  He was formerly Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and previously Vice President and Director of Development of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra.

As Chief Development Officer of The Cleveland Orchestra, Jon Limbacher will manage the Philanthropy and Advancement department, leading fundraising for the institution and serving as a primary liaison between staff and the Board of Trustees of the Musical Arts Association, the Orchestra’s parent organization.

In making the appointment, Executive Director Gary Hanson said, “I am very pleased to announce that Jon Limbacher has joined us in the role of Chief Development Officer for The Cleveland Orchestra.  Since working with this Orchestra from 1991-95, Jon’s career has skyrocketed to the top of our field in fundraising.  He is extremely well respected as an innovator and mentor, and we look forward to having him on our senior staff team.”

Jon Limbacher succeeds Dory Vanderhoof, who will continue to consult for the Orchestra in his role as a senior partner at Genovese, Vanderhoof & Associates, a leading North American arts cultural management consulting firm.  After an interim role directing fundraising for the Orchestra in 2008-9, Mr. Vanderhoof became Chief Development Officer in October 2009.

A career fundraiser, Jon Limbacher has nearly 25 years experience as a development professional.  He formerly worked as Director of Development at Elyria Catholic High School, Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center, and Lakewood Hospital.  From 1991-95 he served as Assistant Director of Development for The Cleveland Orchestra, where he led the Annual Fund Campaign, increasing it by nearly $2 million in four years.  From Cleveland, Mr. Limbacher moved to the role of Vice President and Director of Development at the St. Louis Symphony, where he oversaw annual and endowment fundraising, and marketing.  In 2000, Mr. Limbacher became Vice President of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, eventually assuming all leadership for fundraising and marketing, with a staff of 20.  He was responsible for strategic planning, business model innovation, increasing operating revenue, and led a campaign for a new concert hall.
