No doubt about it, it has been a cooler (and wetter) summer this year. While some folks wished for higher temperatures others were perfectly content in the moderate temperatures. Whatever your opinion, the fact remains that summer is coming to a close and this is the perfect time to visit the Zoo before school starts up again.
There have been some great changes in the Zoo this year. To begin with there are lots of new babies that have joined their parents in their various areas. This summer marked the opening of the new Circle of Wildlife Carousel and Nature Discovery Ridge Play Area. Thus far, thousands of happy guests have taken a ride on the new carousel choosing from among the 64 different hand carved and hand painted figures. Single ride tickets for the carousel are $3.00 ($2.50 for Cleveland Zoological Society Members with all day ride passes available for $8.00 ($6.00 for members).
Right next to the new carousel is the brand new Nature Discovery Ridge Play Area that is free for the children with paid Zoo admission. This safe area allows the children to have limited adult involvement from parents and caregivers while their imaginations allow them to explore and discover new ways to play. Using natural elements like rocks, water and trees children explore, climb, learn and have fun in a totally natural setting where imaginations rule.
It is even easier to visit the Zoo right now. From now through Labor Day (September 1, 2014) the Zoo will have extended weekend and holiday hours being open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. After Labor Day the Zoo returns to its regular schedule of 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily
Labor Day also brings an end to the Zoo's CPP Power Pass Bundle offer, camel rides and Professor Wylde's Live Animal Show for the season. The colorful show in the Zoo's Savanna Theater features an all-star cast of critters, lots of fun animal facts and a few jokes, too. It's an engaging and entertaining show for all ages.
Fall time at the Zoo is also a special time as the 25th annual Boo at the Zoo will be held on October 16-19 and 23-26. Tickets for Zoo members are on sale exclusively through August 27, 2014 with sales to the general public beginning on that date. Admission to Boo at the Zoo is $8.00 for the general public ($7.00 for members). This event is a perennial sell-out so order your tickets early. Tickets will be available at the Zoo's Box Office, or online at clevelandmetroparks.com/zoo.
(Note: Due to the Labor Day holiday, normal free Monday Zoo admission for residents of Cuyahoga County and Hinckley Township will not be offered on Monday, September 1.)
Northeast Ohio's most-visited year-round attraction, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily with hours extended to 7 p.m. on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Admission is $12.25 per person, $8.25 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for children younger than 2 and Zoo members. Parking is free. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 90 and 480.
