Take a trip through the average American household and you will find all kinds of recyclable stuff that is just sitting around gathering dust. Take a few minutes to clean out your home, closets, garage and kitchen cupboards and earn a free admission to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
On Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will be celebrating America Recycles Day where you can bring in select recyclable materials and earn one free admission with the purchase of a regular admission.
Items that will be accepted will be aluminum cans, cell phones and rechargeable phone batteries, newspaper, catalogs, junk mail, magazines, ink jet and toner print cartridges, cooking and dining supplies and utensils, and pairs of shoes (no single shoes, rubber flip flops, ice skates, roller skates, slippers, ski boots or completely ruined or broken footwear will be accepted).
Free document shredding will also be available from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a limit of three bags or boxes. There will also be an exhibit area with organizations promoting various aspects of “reduce, reuse, recycle”, as well as lots of conservation games and crafts.
Proceeds from the aluminum cans collected will benefit international slow loris conservation organization, The Little Fireface Project.
Can’t make it to the Zoo on November 9, but still want to do your part? The Zoo takes compact fluorescent light bulbs, cell phones, rechargeable cell phone batteries, and ink jet and toner cartridges any day the Zoo is open at the recycling station located in the Zoo’s Exhibit Hall just inside the main entrance.
Newspapers, magazines, junk mail and shredded paper (bagged) can be deposited in the yellow and green Abitibi-Bowater Paper Retriever bins in the rear of the Hippo Parking Lot behind The RainForest.
Northeast Ohio’s most-visited year-round attraction, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $12.25 per person, $8.25 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for children younger than 2 and Zoo members. Parking is free. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 90 and 480.
