Cleveland Metroparks Zoo announces September 4, 2014 as ‘Senior Safari Day’

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is a great way for Senior citizens to get out and stay active. They can choose walking or riding to the various exhibits in the Zoo. On Thursday, September 4, 2014 the Zoo will be hosting “Senior Safari Day” with a collection of wellness activities, live entertainment, health exhibitors and more. What makes it special for Zoo guests 55 and older is that the entire day is free and includes admission to the Zoo and The RainForest. The Zoo is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the activities running from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This is a great way for multi-generational families to spend some quality time together. Senior guests are encouraged to bring their friends and families to share in the memories that will last a lifetime for all. Among the planned events will be exhibitors distributing information and giveaways for youngsters and seniors. Free tai chi lessons will be offered and the RSVP Players and Progressive Field Dixieland Band will provide live music.

New this year is the Zoo’s “Circle of Wildlife Carousel” that boasts 64 hand-carved figures and is a great stop for the entire family. Complimentary tram transportation will also be provided throughout the day from the Welcome Plaza to the Primate, Cat & Aquatics Building where guests will see a variety of animals including the Zoo's oldest residents, two male Aldabra tortoises. Take advantage of get close opportunities including lorikeet feeding in Australian Adventure and giraffe feeding in African Savanna. While there, keep an eye open for Adia, the baby giraffe, one of the Zoo's youngest residents.

Northeast Ohio's most-visited year-round attraction, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily with hours extended to 7:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Admission is $12.25 per person, $8.25 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for children younger than 2 and Zoo members. Parking is free. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 90 and 480.
