Burn off those holiday calories at the new Acacia 5K Run
Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that seem to be devoted to the love of food. Recipes that have lain dormant for the rest of the year are dusted off and prepared for the holiday table. With this additional temptation it is no wonder that Americans as a whole eat substantially more on this feasting celebration (an average of 1,600 extra calories).
Cleveland Metroparks has a plan to help you work off that extra helping of stuffing, cranberry sauce and pie. Come run off those extra calories at the new Acacia 5K Run on Saturday, November 30. The run will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in the Cleveland Metroparks Acacia Reservation.
While primarily designed to help runners burn some calories it is also a great way to get introduced to the Acacia Reservation which is a scenic greenspace that is located in the busy commercial district of Lyndhurst. The run will be held on the paved surface loop that circles Acacia.
Pre-registration is open until Friday, November 6 for $30. After November 6, late or day of registration is $35. Pre-registration packet pickup will be Wednesday, November 20 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Acacia Reservation. On race day, packet pickup is at 9 a.m. with the race starting at 10 a.m.
Handcrafted medals will be given to the first and second place finishers for men and women in categories by age. And, if you want to be environmentally conscious as well as health conscious, carpoolers are eligible for a special raffle with a chance to win great prizes.
Participants will get a free T-shirt, while supplies last, and a healthy, hot meal courtesy of Dino's Catering (hopefully sans turkey, dressing, gravy, mash potatoes and pumpkin pie).
This race is for children ages 14 and older and adults. Registration and liability waiver are required to participate in the race.
