Cleveland Metroparks invites you to come out and play this holiday season

Just because you are home for the holidays does not mean you have to stay in the home for the holidays. Once the Christmas gifts have been unwrapped and the Christmas ham stored in the Tupperware bundle up the family for some fun indoors and outdoors in the Cleveland Metroparks.

December Days at the Zoo
Through Monday, December 30, 2013

Spend the day in shirtsleeves in 80º tropical setting at the Cleveland Metroparks RainForest or bundle up and hike the zoo trails to see the animals that thrive in this climate. December Days at the Zoo has something for everyone. There’s holiday crafts and live music at the Wolf Lodge as well as cookie decorating and more or take the heated tram to the Primate, Cat and Aquatics Building.

Winter admission to the Zoo is reduced to $8.25 for adults and $5.25 for children, ages 2 to 11. The Zoo is closed Christmas Day. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is located at 3900 Wildlife Way and is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 90 and 480. For more information, visit or call 216-661-6500.

Watershed Stewardship Center
West Creek Reservation

Take a moment to think how convenient it is to have running water in each of our homes, then think what water goes through to reach that destination. Start out as a water drop entering a watershed and navigate a maze. Along the way, answer questions, complete puzzles and fly across a zip slide. Good choices lead you back to a clean ocean. Bad choices takes you for a trip down an urban storm drain. The Watershed Stewardship Center is located off the West Ridgewood Drive entrance to West Creek Reservation in Parma. Hike and Play at Acacia

Clevelanders are not ones to stay cooped up inside during the winter months. Dress for winter hiking and join Naturalist Carly Martin for a short hike and some out door fun. CanalWay has the perfect solution for filling your children’s day with indoor and outdoor activities. Hike, make crafts, play games or watch a movie. Bring a packed lunch, water bottle and dress for the great outdoors. This program is geared for children 8-12. Registration and $20 fee are required. Family Fun Night

Looking for a place to celebrate the New Years that does not conflict with sleep time for the children? Bring the entire family to Noon Year’s Eve at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The family friendly event features live entertainment, crafts, music, an ice-carving demonstration as well as a special countdown to noon complete with a ball drop in the Welcome Plaza. Cleveland Metroparks Chalet
Through March 9, 2014

What can be more fun than racing down a 70 foot drop at up to fifty miles an hour? Two refrigerated ice shoots await you for a fast heart pumping ride. The best part is the toboggan lift takes each 40 lb. toboggan to the top of the hill instead of you carrying it. The daily admission fee is only $10 for adults, and $8 for children, ages 11 and younger, which includes unlimited use of the toboggans for the day. One-time ride rickets are also available for $4.

The Chalet is open December 26 - 30 from noon to 10:30 p.m., December 31 from noon to 5 p.m., January 1 - 4 from noon to 10:30 p.m. and January 5 from noon to 5 p.m. The Chalet is closed on Christmas.

The Chalet Recreation Area is located at 16200 Valley Parkway in Mill Stream Run Reservation, between Routes 42 and 82 in Strongsville - just a short distance from I-71 and the Ohio Turnpike. For more information about the Chalet Toboggan Chutes, visit
