Cleveland Indians spring notes: Tribe suffers first spring loss, Brantley update

The Cleveland Indians lost their first game of the spring on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, as the Kansas City Royals outscored the Tribe 4-1. Cleveland drops to 5-1 on the spring with the loss.

The Tribe was held to just five hits on the day with the lone bright spot coming from Matt Carson with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was Carson’s second home run of the spring.

Pitcher Giovanni Soto continues to struggle this spring. In just his second outing he gave up three hits for two runs, and issued two walks in just 2/3 of an inning. He boasts an ERA of 47.25 this spring.

Outfielder Michael Brantley sat out the game with 15 stitches due to a laceration on his left forearm. He was accidently spiked on Monday and is expected to miss the next 10 days.

The Indians will next face the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. EST.
