Cleveland Indians spring notes: Tribe makes additional roster moves

On Monday, March 11, 2013, the Cleveland Indians announced a bevy of roster moves as they gear up for the 2013 MLB season.

The Indians signed the following pre-arbitration players (those with 0-3 years of MLB service) to one-year Major League contracts:

LHP Scott Barnes, OF Ezequiel Carrera, INF Juan Diaz, CA/INF Yan Gomes, LHP Nick Hagadone, RHP Frank Herrmann, LHP David Huff, INF Jason Kipnis, RHP Chen-Chang Lee, INF Mike McDade, INF Cord Phelps, and RHP Josh Tomlin.

The Indians also renewed the 2013 MLB contracts of:

RHP Carlos Carrasco and RHP Vinnie Pestano.

With these moves the Indians now have all members of the club’s 40-man roster under contract.

In other moves (view the official Cleveland Indians press release here), the Indians selected the contract of LHP Rich Hill from the Triple-A Columbus Clippers, adding him to the 40-man roster.

They placed RHP Blake Wood (right elbow) on the 60-day Disabled List and optioned OF Tim Fedroff, RHP Trey Haley, LHP TJ House, RHP Chen-Chang Lee, and RHP Danny Salazar to Triple-A Columbus.

Cleveland re-assigned non-roster invitees IF Matt LaPorta, RHP Fernando Nieve, and CA Roberto Perez to Minor League Camp and Granted the unconditional release of OF Ben Francisco.

The Indians’ Major League spring training roster now stands at 51 players.
