Cleveland Indians news: Tribe avoids arbitration with Drew Stubbs (Video)

On Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN tweeted the Cleveland Indians have avoided arbitration with outfielder Drew Stubbs. Stubbs and the Indians agreed to a one-year, $2.825 million contract, with a reported $50,000 in performance bonuses.

Stubbs was the eighth overall pick by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2006 amateur draft. He came to Cleveland on December 11, 2012, as part of a three-team trade with the Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks that landed the Indians Stubbs, Matt Albers, Trevor Bauer, and Brian Shaw in exchange for Shin-Soo Choo, Jason Donald, Lars Anderson, and Tony Sipp.

In 2012, Stubbs batted .213 with 14 home runs and 40 RBIs in 136 games. He is a career .241 hitter with 59 home runs and 178 RBIs in four seasons with the Reds. Known more for his outstanding defensive ability, Stubbs is also a speedy runner having stolen an average of 37 home runs per season.
