On Friday, Mar. 1, 2013, the Cleveland Indians updated the press via email regarding the medical status of RHP Frank Herrmann, RHP Chris Perez, OF Michael Brantley, and RHP Joe Smith.
Herrmann suffered a right elbow ligament sprain during his last outing on Feb. 25, 2013 against the Oakland Athletics. The Indians medical staff is still in the process of evaluating Herrmann’s elbow. He has been a non-participant in workouts and there is no timetable for his return.
Perez suffered a subscapularis strain in his right shoulder in his last outing on Feb. 26, 2013, against the Kansas City Royals. He will not throw for the next 7-10 days and will begin a rehabilitation program when he no longer shows symptoms. Perez is expected to resume exhibition game activity in 3-4 weeks but will not participate in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Brantley suffered a left arm laceration of Feb. 25, 2013, against the Athletics and has since resumed lower body strength and conditioning and cardiovascular training. He will begin gripping activities over the weekend and will return to limited participation in baseball activities early next week.
Smith pitched a simulated game Thursday and has live BP scheduled for Saturday.
