Cleveland Indians farm notes: Naquin comes up big in Mudcats debut

Cleveland Indians’ prospect Tyler Naquin had a huge debut for the Carolina Mudcats in their season opening 10-1 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash on Friday, April 5, 2013. With the win the Mudcats improve to 1-0 on the season while the Dash fall to 0-1.

It was a display of offensive power by Carolina led by Naquin with two runs, three hits, a double, a home run, and four RBIs on the day. Fellow top prospect Francisco Lindor also had a strong game batting 3-4 with a triple and a stolen base. Jerrud Sabourin, Bryson Myles, and Todd Hankins each collected a pair of hits.

On the mound for the Mudcats, starter Cody Anderson picked up the win while allowing just one run on four hits through six innings pitched. He issued no walks while striking out four.

On Saturday, right-hander Jacob Lee will make his debut on the mound against Chris Bassitt for the Dash.
