Fans of the Cleveland Indians know the names Nick Swisher and Jason Kipnis. Both sluggers proved their worth on the farm and have made a splash in the big leagues. What do these two stars have in common other than leading the Tribe to playoff baseball during the 2013 season? Both are alumni of the Arizona Fall League (AFL). Swisher was in the AFL class of 2003 while Kipnis was in the AFL class of 2010.
On Monday, October 14, 2013, the Indians announced a total of 25 players listed on the MLB’s Top 100 Prospect List would take part in the six-week league that is widely known as a “finishing school” for the game’s top prospects.
The Indians’ organization will have seven representatives in the AFL including 2012 first round pick Tyler Naquin. The other representatives include: Shawn Armstrong, Trey Haley, Tony Wolters, Jeff Johnson, Will Roberts, and Joe Wendle.
The Indians’ prospects will all play on the Surprise Saguaros.
