Cleveland Indians farm news: Tribe invites trio to Major League camp

On Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, the Cleveland Indians announced the club has signed free agent pitchers Scott Kazmir, Jerry Gil, and Edward Paredes to Minor League contracts with non-roster invitations to Major League camp.

Kazmir boasts a career MLB record of 66-6 with a 4.17 ERA. He played with the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels from 2004-2011. In 2007 he went 13-9 with a 3.48 ERA and led the American League in strikeouts with 239. He spent the 2012 season in the independent Atlantic League.

Gil was a Major League position player from 2004-2007 before being converted to a pitcher in 2008. He boasts a Minor League record of 23-26 with 22 saves and a 5.63 ERA in 205 games. He spent the 2012 season with Triple-A Las Vegas (Toronto Blue Jays) where he posted a 7-1 record paired with a 4.92 ERA.

Paredes pitched for the Seattle Mariners organization from 2005-2011. He recently pitched very well in 24 games in the Dominican League where he went 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 14 innings pitched.
