This weekend marks the celebration of the newest inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. With the ceremony being held in Cleveland this Saturday, April 14th, the city has been abuzz with activities for the past week focused on the best in the world of music. The 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held at Public Hall in Downtown Cleveland.
The current class of Inductees includes Guns N' Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donovan, Laura Nyro, The Small Faces/Faces, Beastie Boys, The Crickets, The Famous Flames, The Midnighters, The Comets, The Blue Caps, The Miracles, Freddie King, Don Kirshner, Cosimo Matassa, Tom Dowd, and Glyn Johns. While both the Induction Ceremony at Public Hall and its Simulcast at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are sold out, everybody can still witness the Ceremony—although not on the day of the event. HBO will broadcast the entire three-hour 2012 Induction Ceremony on May 5th.
Prior to the actual 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction, which begins at 8pm, the Rock Hall will open its doors to all those interested. Admission will be free from 9am to 5:30pm on Saturday, April 14th. The newest exhibit, Grateful Dead: The Long, Strange Trip, just opened on April 12th and offers new memorabilia, music, and history to entice even the most seasoned Rock Hall visitor and each and every Grateful “Deadhead” fan. This week also hosted the grand opening of the Rock Hall’s Library and Archives, which offers on-going access to the means to research all things music.
It’s been an exciting week for the world of music this week, and all attention is focused on Cleveland, Ohio. Even if you are not taking part in any of the Induction activities, it is a time to celebrate the deep history and continuing legacy of great music in Cleveland. Check out one of the incredible local bands some time in the near future—the future may find them being honored on this weekend in the coming years, leaving you saying “I saw them way back when!”
