Cleveland Cavaliers rumors: Omri Casspi requests trade

On Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported Cleveland Cavaliers forward Omri Casspi has requested a trade due to lack of playing time.

Casspi, 24, has averaged just 8.4 points per game in his four-year NBA career. He joined the Cavaliers in 2011 in a trade that sent J.J. Hickson to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Casspi and a protected first-round draft pick.

According to Woknarowski, Casspi made the request through his representatives with Creative Arts Agency (CAA) and Cavaliers’ general manager Chris Grant has been trying to work out deals for Casspi, but nothing has materialized to date.

Casspi has averaged 4.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.5 assists in 13.2 minutes through 19 games this season. He has not had meaningful court time since early December.

Casspi was the 23rd overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft and had made 93 starts in his first three years in the league. His role as an under-utilized bench player after showing flashes of promise early in his career has obviously caused frustration leading to the request.
