Cleveland Cavaliers preview: Cavs look for redemption in Portland

The (9-31) Cleveland Cavaliers are hard-pressed to find a break. They have struggled during their current five-game road trip, but hope to turn their luck around as they gear up to face off against the (20-18) Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013. Tipoff is scheduled for 10 p.m. EST at the Rose Garden.

Despite the recent string of bad luck for the Cavaliers, they enter the matchup with plenty of hope. Portland is coming off a tough overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets on the road on Tuesday. Fatigue could play into Cleveland’s favor especially with the Cavaliers forcing an average of 15.8 turnovers per game.

Another aspect the Cavaliers need to exploit if they hope to come away with a win is the Portland bench is the lowest scoring in the NBA. If the Blazers’ starting five gets tired early, it is another opportunity for the Cavaliers.

Ultimately Cleveland will need to come out fast and hard from the start. Kyrie Irving will need to set the pace while Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller battle it out with J.J. Hickson and LaMarcus Aldridge. Win or lose, it will certainly be an entertaining game.
