Samuels appeared in 18 contests for the Cavaliers this season where he averaged 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in 10.9 minutes per games. In his 109-game career he has averaged 5.9 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.8 minutes.
On Monday, Jan. 7, NBA teams can start signing players to 10-day contracts allowing greater flexibility with rosters. His lack of use on a Cleveland bench that has struggled proved to too much risk to undertake for a valuable roster spot.
Samuels worked hard in the offseason to get into shape, but unfortunately that hard work did not pay off as he saw very little playing time this season. At the very least he now has the opportunity to make a contribution with another team.
The Cavaliers roster currently stands at 14, one below the league maximum of 15.
