Horticulture magazine is offering a new free download on pruning clematis.
The eight page .PDF file was written by Dan Long, owner of Brushwood Nursery and clematis lover. The pamphlet starts by allaying a fear I’ve had: that I had to know the name of the plant to know what group it was in. Wrong. He explains that all you have to know is when the vine blooms to know when to prune it. He then goes through the three main groups and how to prune them, adds in herbaceous clematis, and then talks about advanced tricks you can use to manipulate the plants beyond basic pruning.
On the same page as this download are Horticulture’s older free downloads: The Gardener in Winter, Smart Gardening Guide Step by Step: Seeding a New Lawn and Smart Gardening Guide Step by Step: Starting Seeds That Need Cold. To download any of them, you have to give your name, address and email address and that signs you up for their e-newsletters. I’ve found the newsletters helpful and interesting; if you don’t, you can always unsubscribe.
