Clearwire is a new company supported by Comcast and Time Warner Cable. Clearwire will bring to Phoenix in the fall of 2010 a new pay-as-you-go mobile broadband service that they are calling Rover. The service will start at $5 per day, $20 per week or $50 per month. This is a 4G data speed, which trumps all the other networks currently out who are using 3G speeds still. Of course there is a start up fee in the form of purchasing a device from Clearwire called the Rover Puck, which is priced at a I feel high $150. But this device does offer a better service than a wireless card one could buy from Verizon, ATT or Sprint. This device will become a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot that will let up to eight customers share the broadband access. They do make a point to state customers, which means it cannot be just anyone that can have access to the Rover Pucks Wi-Fi. Your sister who is visiting cannot just buddy up and share your Wi-Fi from you. The Rover Puck provides download speeds of 3-6 Megabits per second with bursts over 10 Mbps. If the hotspot function is not needed the service is also available through the Rover Stick, a 4G USB modem that connects any notebook, laptop or desktop, priced at $100.
