USA Today has named Clearwater Beach the “best beach town in Florida.” Online voters confirmed what many coastal travelers and beach-goers have known for a long time … Clearwater Beach is something special. According to USA Today, Clearwater Beach received more than 25% of nearly 30,000 votes cast by online readers.
Located along Florida’s Gulf Coast, just across the causeway from Tampa, Clearwater Beach is popular year-round. Visitors can enjoy crystal clear water, white sand beaches, tranquil Gulf breezes and an endless choice of entertainment options. The beachside paradise took top honors as readers tweeted or voted online at USAToday.com. Other coastal contestants included popular beach towns such as Siesta Key, Sanibel Island and South Beach.
USA Today’s online poll featured a selection of 10 Florida beach towns handpicked by beach expert Stephen P. Leatherman, also known as “Dr. Beach.” Dr. Beach routinely rates beaches around the country on the basis of sand, surf and a welcoming sense of community.
“We are the best beach,” said Mayor George N. Cretekos. “This is exciting for all of Clearwater and really Pinellas County. We had a great tourist year last year and with this honor it will help us do better in the years to come.”
Sun, warm weather and great dining, along with a wide variety of land and sea activities makes Clearwater an ideal destination for both business and leisure travel. Clearwater is home to Winter the dolphin of “Dolphin Tale,” the Philadelphia Phillies spring training camp and the annual Clearwater Jazz Holiday.
