The new year has just started and so far 2013 doesn't disappoint for the fashion forward recessionista. As the luxury lines and couture houses prepare for Spring/Summer 2013, retailers have also taken their cue and price reductions on Fall/Winter are in effect. There are many opportunities for the price conscious consumer to save major dollars on cold weather goods. Clearance is where to go to find your fashion look without compromising precious pennies. And this season is filled with awesome ways to add savings and add bargain basement prices to your closet.
Retailers just had a tremendous Christmas season. There were deep discounts at every store, especially clothiers who have to reduce prices to keep clothing moving at the same rate as electronics and tech goodies. So, since there is only so much space to keep clothing in, the excess has to go. This brings in clearance sales, to lose the excess that may have not sold at the rate desired. Now this is the time that truly excites the bargain hunter in us all. Fall/winter clothing is on sale at the lowest possible prices of the season. The looks that we saw in the fashion magazines in November and December were all at unattainable prices and led to sticker shock. But that sting is gone, with prices that go down very easy.
I recently shopped a department store (think rhymes with folds...) This store had no lack of sales happening. But the clearance was something special. With prices up to 80% off, this was a shopper's paradise. Labels like Jennifer Lopez and Narciso Rodriguez's DesigNation (the CDFA collaboration with the department store) were offered up at tremendous savings. When I got done shopping (or cut myself off...), I hit the counter and took the haul for examination. My savings were $200! Talk about a true sale. And if your local store just doesn't have the stock on hand, try going online to shop the sales and clearance section.
Online stores have the benefit of having surplus in the warehouse. So when the hunt turns up nothing in your size, try online stores which may make up for the disappointment with additional % off and codes to enter at checkout (some sites allow up to 5 codes). Soon, your perfect deal will be on your doorstep without having to make an extra step outside your home.
Also, check for some great sales on products that were touted as big sellers, but jsut didn't make the cut. One such collaboration was the Target and Neiman Marcus collection, which had less than anticipated sales on the 60 pc. luxury yet frugal items. Now these can be found at your local Target for 70% off! What a great addition of designer products at budget conscious prices to your wardrobe this year!
All and all, this season has clearance that will take you through the cold brutal winter months looking like a diva, yet spending like a saver. Shopping can be fun, but even better after shopping semi-annual clearances and feeling like the victorious one in the battle of retail shopping.
