Clear up your confusion and create highly successful email promotions

Have you heard that mentioning Facebook or including a date in the subject line can increase the number of people that open your emails? Have you ever been torn between two ways to phrase your call to action? Have you wondered if moving your call to action higher in the email would bring you better results?

You can clear up your confusion with A/B testing. A/B testing is a simple way to learn what works best for your audience. You can test subject lines, calls to action, visual layout, etc. Here’s the procedure:

  • Create your next email and name it “A”.
  • Make a copy of that email and name it “B”.
  • Edit copy “B” to include the change you’re testing. (Only make ONE change).
  • Create two new test contact lists in your bulk email service provider – naming one “A” and the other “B”.
  • Copy (DO NOT move) half your contact list into each test list.
  • Send copy “A” to list “A”.
  • Send copy “B” to list “B”.
  • Compare the open rates and click-throughs for each email after approximately 48 hours after they were sent.

There you have it - a simple way to develop stronger and stronger email promotions by determining what best inspires action from your unique readership.
