The cluster of crisply fluttering sails across the horizon at Clear Lake is a sight that many have become accustomed to seeing on Wednesday nights, but many residents have no idea what the commotion is all about. Things are not just busier than usual due to the lovely weather. These sailboats are involved in the Wednesday night races put on for all to enjoy for free by the Clear Lake Racing Association. The races are set specifically so that they can be viewed from the Villa Capri Garden Restaurant and other restaurants with views of the crystal clear lake waters.
While this may be new to you, it certainly is not new to the area. These races have been going on in this area for approximately forty years and is a staple of the community's history.
Sailing is often overlooked for its potential health and fitness benefits, thought of more as a hobby than a sport by those who have not tried it. While the hobby and passion aspect of sailing might contribute significantly to stress reduction and relaxation, sailing also contributes to physical aspects of physical wellness. This includes cardiovascular endurance benefits, strength and conditioning, flexibility, agility and coordination.
The Clear Lake races take place on Wednesday nights from April through October. The next race is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23rd, beginning at 6:15 p.m. Commentary is provided at the Villa Capri Italian Restaurant where the start of the race is located. Anyone who wishes to participate is welcome to do so, and can fill out an entry form on the day of the race.
