The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) will host a kickoff celebration for the Clear Creeks Project. The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This celebration will be held at the Marshy Point Nature Center in Middle River.
The Clear Creeks Project will fund activites on natural plantings, rain barrels and rain gardens with the goal of improving the water quality within the Middle River Small Watershed. By getting residents involved in this new project, the GVC knows it can make a difference in the water quality of this small watershed which flows directly into the Chesapeake Bay.
This project plans to begin its two year efforts focusing on the residential communities of Hawthorne, Bowleys Quarters and Wilson Point. They will focus on installing rain barrels while also instructing residents about rain gardens. Another top priority includes insuring the planting of native plants and the removal of invasive plants. Lastly, the group will recruit volunteers to do tree plantings throughout the watershed.
