“Cleansing" A Home Or Individual– PAPS, Part III

The “cleansing” of a home or individual is done in a very methodical way by members of PAPS. Their team consists of a Demonologist (used when needed), a Chaplin, a Bishop, a member of the Jewish faith, a thermographer, and various others who have the skills and interest in helping others maintain a peaceful existence. Rod was very careful to point out that mediums and psychics are not used during cleansings and are not a part of his team. As we learned in Part II of the PAPS series, this is because mediums and psychics are very often “lighthouses” for the paranormal and the goal, as Rod sees it, is to rid the home or individual of the paranormal being, not invite more.

Most investigations last about three hours with the cleansing taking up most of that. They are usually done around 8-9pm and consist of the team using their equipment to test the identified areas and then performing the cleansing ritual. The cleansing is generally led by one of the religious authorities and is supported by the rest of the team. There are three phases to a home cleansing. Rod and his team perform Phase 1, and Phases 2 and 3 are up to the home owners. Phase 1 is the process of driving the spirit out and actually sealing the "doors" (or portals) that have been opened (often closets and bathrooms). The team and the home owners tell the spirits, out loud, to leave the house. A prayer is said (Ephesians 3:16-19) by the religious authority and is repeated by the team and the home owners while blessed water or oil are used to seal the "doors". Rod stated that bathrooms are often "doors" because the materials used in bathroom construction are designed to retain energy; drawing the spirits in and allowing them to remain. In fact, 96% of all homes that have been identified as having paranormal beings present have activity in the bathrooms.

Phases 2 and 3, done by the homeowner on the second and third night following the cleansing, are vital to the process. The first cleansing drives the spirits out, but the second night, they can return “with friends,” as Rod put it, so it is important for the home owner to follow up with the process of sealing the "doors" to not allow the party to continue. The third night, as the spirits are already weakened, “seals the deal” and casts the spirits out permanently because the "doors" they used to come into this world are now completely closed. If the homeowner does not follow the steps, which include the same prayer said on the first night as well as the use of oil or blessed water (provided by PAPS), it is highly likely the home will remain a place of paranormal activity.

Rod endorses individual protection of oneself by not “getting too close” to the paranormal. He advises not inviting them into your home through the use of Ouija Boards or other occult methods like séances or spiritual callings of that type. The best protection is to ensure that you are not opening any "doors" that are unnecessary and thus, not becoming a "lighthouse" for the paranormal.
