The cherry blossoms are in full swing, and it's time to stow away those puffy parkas and dust off your pretty spring styles. But this year, when cleaning out your closet, you can put your leftover holiday fashions to good use by donating them to local military families in need.
Each year, military personnel, spouses and their families are invited to several formal functions, which may cause financial strain when it comes to funding appropriate attire. To help ease that burden, Fashion Delivers and the D.C. Fort Meade USO Center have teamed up to create a unique initiative called the Cinderella's Gala. As an extension of the USO Metro of Ft. Meade's Cinderella's Closet program, the Cinderella's Gala offers formal attire free of charge and is designed to help young girls and women feel more confident in preparing for formal events.
Open to all active duty service members and their dependents, the first annual Cinderella’s Gala event will be held this Saturday, April 9, from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., at the McGill Training Center (8452 Zimbroski Ave., Fort Meade, Md.). There, Fashion Delivers will help attendees select gently worn dresses at no cost, while offering a variety of workshops on topics such as appropriate formal wear attire, dressing right for one's body type, proper etiquette and make-up application.
Fashion Delivers is seeking donations ofclothing, footwear and accessories for 200 participants who range in size zero to 20. To show your support and make a contribution, contact a Fashion Delivers representative at Lauren@fashiondelivers.org.
