During the summer months, it's easy to be to overwhelmed by summer heat to want to cook. As a result, you may have a lot of fruits and vegetables on hand that you're not using. Enter the smoothie- the most delicious way to clean the fridge sine the Nine Egg Fritatta.

If you have a blender, then you're in business. A cup of ice cubes is a great start to making a smoothie. From there anything can happen. Yogurt + kale+ carrots? Almond Milk +blueberries + bananas? Yes to both. Beets with lemon juice, spinach, and oranges can be incredibly tasty as well. It's a great way to stay healthy and hydrated, and also a fun way to eat your vegetables.

This examiner's favorite smoothie this summer has been the blueberry/strawberry yogurt smoothie. It's faintly sweet ( add raw cane sugar to taste), and has a smooth creamy consistency and pretty color. It's like having Pinkberry at my fingertips. Add a banana to this and you're basically set. The best thing is that summer fruits freeze well and are easy to portion out, even when frozen. A cup of ice, half a cup of blueberries and strawberries, then add a cup of yogurt. Hit the button the grinds up ice, then pour when ready. You could even add rum or tequila if you're having a summer movie fest with friends. Another hit is the papaya smoothie. Papaya doesn't have a bold flavor, so definitely add lemon or pineapple, or maybe kiwi to liven it up.

Mix it up and have fun! Smoothies are cooking with ice, so feel free to have a smoothie dinner party and decorate your creations with cut up fruit, basil leaves. or whatever else strikes your creative fancy. Playing with your food makes you want to create more dishes and more new tastes to enjoy.
