Our warm autumn weather in the Bay Area makes it hard to face the fact that cold weather is just around the corner. That means putting away the flip-flops and getting out your sweaters. Now is a good time to evaluate your wardrobe and reorganize your closet.
Start by identifying anything that does not fit, is ripped or stained. Those items are not your friends; they are just taking up space in your closet.
Next, figure out which clothing pieces you have not worn in a year. If you are not sure, turn the hanger backwards and keep it that way until you wear it. In a few months, if the hanger is still backwards, then you know you won’t wear it.
As you’re sorting, ask yourself if any of your donate items are business appropriate. These can be donated to an organization called Wardrobe for Opportunity. Their mission statement explains what they do: “Wardrobe for Opportunity is an innovative nonprofit organization that empowers low-income jobseekers across the Bay Area with the skills, tools and support they need to find and maintain employment, build successful careers and, ultimately, achieve economic self-sufficiency.”
The main office of Wardrobe For Opportunity is located in Oakland: 570 14th Street, Suite 5, Oakland, CA 94612. Their phone number is (510) 463-4100.
