DID YOU KNOW??
Food Waste is the #1 material by weight being disposed of at the Larimer County Landfill.
Food waste is followed closely by yard waste (#2 residential, #3 commercial), corrugated cardboard and other compostable paper.
The tragedy? All of these materials can be reused.
"Composting involves mixing yard and household organic waste in a pile or bin and providing conditions that encourage decomposition. The decomposition process is fueled by millions of microscopic organisms (bacteria, fungi) that take up residence inside your compost pile, continuously devouring and recycling it to produce a rich organic fertilizer and valuable soil amendment" (www.composting101.com).
Indoor composters exist, but they can be bulky, smelly and expensive. Outdoor composters are easier to make yourself, but they are cumbersome and require yard space, as well as understanding neighbors.
Clean Air Compost ( a division of Fort Collins' own Clean Air Lawn Care) is pleased to announce a convenient and comprehensive compost pick-up service to help you save money on your trash bill and help the community divert even more waste from the landfill.
Pick up services will be provided by Rob's Bike Courier Service, the pedal-powered phenomenon that's already helping to keep dirty garbage trucks off of our streets and alley ways. Compostables will be delivered to A1 Organics, Colorado's leader in organic recycling, that has successfully diverted over 8,000,000 cubic yards of waste from Colorado landfills!
