A domestic disturbance in the Clatskanie area sent a man to the hospital and landed a female area resident in the Columbia County Jail on charges of assault in the first degree, burglary in the first degree and menacing.
The incident occurred just before 6 a.m. on July 28, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Jeff Dickerson said that deputies responded to Coop Road in the Clatskanie area to investigate a disturbance call. There, they learned that 40-year-old Tracy Mitchell had stabbed her husband and was reportedly driving him to the hospital when sheriff’s deputies caught up with the vehicle.
Dickerson said that while it was a high-risk traffic stop because both the suspect and victim were in the vehicle, police were able to stop the vehicle without incident. Medical personnel were summoned and transported the victim, a 43-year-old Clatskanie man, to PeaceHealth St. John Hospital in Longview, Wash., for treatment of multiple stab wounds. Dickerson said that the victim was in surgery as of 10:59 a.m., but his condition is unknown.
A press release issued this morning said that the incident took place at a residence in the 18000 block of Coop Road, at the residence of a third party who has not been identified.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is continuing this investigation and new information will be reported as it becomes available.
