Classic rock acts headline in Chicago this summer

See also

Big name classic rock bands will be playing the Chicago area this summer. If you groove to the likes of The Village People, The Charlie Daniels Band, The Turtles, The Monkees’ Mickey Dolenz, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, The Buckinghams or The Grass Roots then this summer southwest suburban Aurora is Mecca, Mecca, to you. And you might even pick up on that Gene Pitney reference.

What’s in store in Aurora:

Celebrating 35 years as the "Kings of Disco", The Village People are headlining the Retro Rock on the Fox outdoor musical festival on the banks of the scenic Fox River in downtown Aurora on Saturday, July 14. One of music history’s iconic bands, they've sold more than 100 million albums. A 2008 garnered more than 40,000 participants in the world’s record YMCA dance. Read up on these dudes and their latest antics at Official Village People.

Retro Rock on the Fox takes place at the North River Street Park in the heart of Aurora's historic downtown entertainment district, at New York and River Streets, just west of the Hollywood Casino. Also on tap are icy libations and food vendors in a relaxed atmosphere for the whole family to enjoy.

A nominal entry fee of $5 covers admission. Admission is free for children 12 and under. Festival hours are 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. (gates open at 1:30 p.m.) There are no advance sales for Retro Rock on the Fox. All tickets are purchased day of at the entry gates.

Later this summer on Saturday, August 18 music lovers will converge at the same locale for another outdoor music festival: Jam on the Fox. They’ll enjoy a full day of southern-fried country rock and the headline act of The Charlie Daniels Band. Grammy and County Music Association Award winner Charlie Daniels, a singer, song writer, guitarist, fiddler and country musical icon is synonymous with Southern rock. A nominal entry fee of $5 covers admission. Admission is free for children 12 and under. Festival hours are 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. (gates open at 1:30 p.m.) There are no advance sales for Jam on the Fox. All tickets are purchased day of at the entry gates.

The following week on Friday, August 24 at 8P.M. the Happy Together Tour comes to Aurora’s Paramount Theatre. Experience five musical legends in one night when members of The Monkees, The Turtles, The Grass Roots, Gary Puckett & the Union Gap and The Buckinghams play together on one unbelievable bill. You’ll hear great old tunes - No. 1 hits like “Happy Together,” “I’m a Believer,” “Midnight Confession,” or “Kind of a Drag.” Tickets cost S59.50 for this show. An additional $10 gains your entry at a pre-party that kicks off the Paramount’s 2012-13 season. You can sample cuisine from area restaurants while browsing silent auction items.
