The 1939 classic, "The Wizard of Oz," is back in theaters this week in a special limited release that presents the beloved musical in IMAX 3D. The film is playing in theaters across the United States from September 20, 2013, through September 26, so fans of the Judy Garland fantasy have only a few days left to experience the trip to Oz in this revamped form.
The original movie has become one of the most beloved family films of all time, thanks to Judy Garland's iconic turn as heroine Dorothy Gale and a collection of memorable supporting performances and songs. Adapted from the classic novel by L. Frank Baum, the picture also stars Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, Ray Bolger, Frank Morgan, and Margaret Hamilton. The movie won two Oscars, both for its music, with the Best Original Song award going to Garland's heartbreaking rendition of "Over the Rainbow."
As part of the 75th anniversary of the movie's original release, Warner Bros. is also producing a five disc collector's edition of the film on Blu-ray and DVD, with books, collectibles, and many other special features. The box set is now available for pre-order and will be released on October 1, 2013, with a list price just over $100.
