Classic Movies 101: Who were the most popular movie stars of 1916?

The Info 101 entry I posted last week about the most popular stars of 1935 was popular enough that I thought I'd back it up a little further for you this week.

"Who's Your Favorite Film Star?" was the question posed to readers of the February 1917 edition of Motion Picture Magazine. While likely far from perfect and surely not very scientific I will say this--it gives an accurate account of who readers of Motion Picture Magazine favored sometime near the end of 1916.

I'd published the complete list of 102 stars along with their "official" vote tallies some time ago on my collectibles web site, things-and-other-stuff.com, but the Examiner's slideshow feature gives me a great way to show off some vintage collectible images of at least the top 10 stars in the polling!
