When you think of metal bands from Chicago only a few names come to mind. Sure there's Disturbed, Novembers Doom, Mudvayne (they're actually out of Peoria, but we won't hold that against them), Nachtmystium, and many others. But one band in particular sticks out on their own. A band that never really went above cult status but still represents the Windy City in true metal fashion! Doom/stoner metal legends, Trouble, are here rock once again!
Originally formed in 1979, Trouble have been rocking for more than three decades and show no signs of slowing down. Having released eight studio albums, gone through many lineup changes, and unfortunately suffered from one members untimely death, Trouble are still one of the biggest bands to come out of Chicago's own metal scene.
Pulling on influences from mainly Black Sabbath and 60s psychedelic rock, Trouble also bring heavy, down-tuned guitars giving them their longtime doom metal sound. Bands like Pentagram and Sweden's own Candlemass, alongside Trouble, helped define the doom metal genre. It wasn't until their 1990's releases on Rick Rubin's label, Def American, that Trouble took more of a stoner metal direction. With vocals reminiscent of Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Trouble still maintains a classic rock sound on top of the doom!
In 2009, Trouble announced a new album in the works, titled "The Dark Riff" which was given a release date sometime in 2011. Later on that year Trouble played the heavy metal Mecca, Wacken Open Air Festival, alongside acts like Anthrax and Heaven and Hell, in Germany where guitarist Bruce Franklin said this was not going to the be title of the new album. As much the same, the metal community awaits the highly anticipated album!
Trouble's current lineup is:
Kory Clarke -Vocals
Bruce Franklin - Guitar
Rick Wartell - Guitar
Shane Pasqualla - Bass
Mark Lira - Drums
