Classic Arcade BurgerTime To Be Updated For HD Era

BurgerTime appears to be the next 1980s arcade classic primed for a modern console update.

An ESRB ratings posting reveals the upcoming BurgerTime HD is on the way from MonkeyPaw Games for release on the XBox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and PC platforms.

According to the rating, this update will introduce many new enemies and features, including a hot pepper and several fruits for the health-conscious gamer.

The original BurgerTime was released by Data East in 1982 and appeared in arcades from Bally Midway as well as Data East directly as part of their DECO Cassette System. The title featured small chef named Peter Pepper, who had to dodge living eggs, hot dogs and pickles who were out to stop him from making huge hamburgers.

The game was an instant hit and was released across all home console platforms of it's era, in addition to several later ones.

Some obscure sequels followed, including the hardly-seen Peter Pepper's Ice Cream and Super BurgerTime in the arcades, a pair of GameBoy sequels (including one starring the Flintstones), and several cellphone and smart phone exclusives in more recent years, including BurgerTime Delight and BurgerTime Deluxe.

No release date or screenshots are available at this time.
