Reside South End, located on Washington Street officially opened its doors this past weekend. Reside South End is the offspring of Reside in Cambridge, and like Flock on Shawmut Ave, a mother daughter collaboration. Reside Cambridge has been nurtured in the vision of Pamela Watts, offering classic mid-20th century modern furniture along with art and home accessories. Her daughter, Nicole Rueda-Watts the jewelry designer of NYX has joined her to open and run Reside South End. Nicole herself a South End resident said that they decided to open a store here because so many people from the area were making their way to the store in Cambridge.

Like the store in Cambridge, the offerings at Reside South End are a carefully chosen eclectic selection of furniture, art, and home accessories. New to this location is handmade jewelry. In addition to Nicole's jewelry, Reside will also sell handmade jewelry created by several other designers. While some of the accessories like the hanging fiber glass lamps and the bamboos bowls are current to the market, many of the accessories for sale are previously owned. There is glassware and porcelain, as well as a selection of unique decorative items. The furniture is also previously owned, and in most cases has had only one owner. Pamela and Nicole find pieces for the shops in their travels, at antique dealers, at the homes of Bostonians in the process of downsizing.

If you are moving or downsizing and think that your furniture and/or home accessories are a good fit for Reside South End, you can show them to Nicole by calling the store and making an appointment. Although most of the merchandise for sale at Reside South End is previously owned, this is not a consignment shop. Pieces are carefully selected, unique, in excellent conditon, and typically have had only one owner.

If you go to browse at Reside and see something you like, snatch it up. It may not be there the next time you go, and you may never find another piece of its kind anywhere else.

I’m always slightly wary of merging modern design with classic quality for furniture, but I think Reside is doing a good job in marrying the two aspects. For me, personally, I stick with Amish furniture, like the ones made by Brandenberry, but sometimes I do like one or two pieces of my furniture to have a slight design twist. I ended up just buying at IKEA though because it’s just cheaper.
