First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS) Michelle Obama, wife of President Barack Obama and mother of daughters Malia and Shasha, in addition to being a lawyer, a former Chicago city administrator, and community outreach worker, is a fashion trend setter.
Mrs. Obama graduated from Princeton University in 1985 and from Harvard Law School in 1988. She scaled back her professional work to concentrate on family and campaign obligations during Mr. Obama's run for president. Since she became First Lady of the United States with President Obama’s inauguration on 20 January 2009, her buzz worthy style has been setting fashion trends worldwide.
When the First Lady stepped on stage on election night in November in her Michael Kors creation, the entire world was watching and taking note. In fact, a $32 knock-off of her election night dress, “The Michelle” by British retailer Asda, sold out in only two days. The dress was designed and named after Asda shoppers chose Michelle Obama as “the most-impressive female dresser" and, of course, it was an instant hit with shoppers.
"The Michelle" dress will not be restocked, making the sold out dress an instant collector’s item.
The custom-made, sleeveless pink and gray silk Tracy Reese dress the first lady wore at the Democratic National Convention will be available for purchase on December 1. The first lady paired the dress with J. Crew Everly pumps in "Rhubarb."
Michelle Obama doesn't follow style rules, she reinvents them, and she also wears her dresses more than once. Even the gray nail polish she wore at the Convention sparked a trend. With a few dramatic hand gestures, the First Lady catapulted a new trend into being.
At the convention, Michelle wore Artistic Nail Design Soak Off Color Gloss in "Vogue," and the following day, Artistic Nail Design's U.S. headquarters was flooded with requests from manicurists wanting to stock the gray color Michelle was seen wearing – a 90 percent increase in calls for the gray color alone. Gray nails have gone mainstream.
The first lady's well-known penchant for pairing high-end accessories with off-the-rack bargains makes her style much more accessible, something bargain shoppers worldwide appreciate. Maxim magazine lists First Lady Michelle Obama as No. 93 on this year’s “Hot 100″ list.
First Lady Michelle Obama not only gave an outstanding speech at the Democratic National Convention, she made a fantastic fashion statement as well, and both were equally well received.
