With girls hockey finished until practice begins in late October, it's time to preview the eight sections in the four girls basketball classes. First up is Class AAAA.
In Section 1, does this sound familiar? Lakeville North is the number one seed. So far, the Panthers have been the top seed in their section in boys and girls hockey. Now they lead the pack in girls basketball and have to contend with the Rochester schools and Owatonna. Could the yellow Lakeville buses be busy along I-35?
Section 2 is without a doubt the state's best section. Five teams have a shot at heading to Target Center. The top seeded Bloomington Kennedy Eagles was the state's number one AAAA team until Hopkins regained their perch. But look out for the second seeded Edina Hornets, the third seeded Eden Prairie Eagles, the fourth seeded Chanhassen Storm and the darkhorse, the fifth seeded Lakeville South Cougars. Who will come out of this section? Take your pick. Head over to Chaska March 8 to see an outstanding championship game.
In Section 3, the Eastview Lightning, led by Madison Guebert is the top seed. Could there be three teams from the South Suburban Conference in this year's AAAA tournament? It may or may not happen with the Park of Cottage Grove Wolfpack seeded second. Eastview's rival, the Apple Valley Eagles have the third seed.
Going to Section 4, the top seed is the St. Paul Central Minutemen. The school that won the first state Class AA tournament in 1976 could be returning but they will have to hold off the second seeded Wood Royals and the third seeded White Bear Lake Bears.
In Section 5, the Roseville Raiders are the top seed. But everything might not be rosy for the Raiders because they have to contended with the second seeded Centennial Cougars and last year's section champion the Osseo Orioles. This could be an interesting section.
The Section 6 pairings have not been posted but you can bet that the top seed will be the two time Class AAAA champion Hopkins Royals. Will there be a threepeat? Fifth ranked Minnetonka, led by Gopher signee Joanna Hedstrom looks to end the Royals dominance.
Section 7 looks wide open with the Forest Lake Rangers seeded first. The Anoka Tornadoes have the second seed and the Cambridge-Isanti Blurjackets are seeded third.
The top seed in Section 8 is the St. Michael-Albertville Knights. The Rogers Royals have the second seed and the Elk River Elks get the third seed.
Next up is Class AAA
