After examining the eight Class AAA sections, here's a preview of the eight Class AAA sections.
In Section 1, the Red Wing Wingers are the top seed, followed by the Winona Winhawks second and the Kasson-Mantorville Komets third. Will there be another busload of purple and white Winger fans coming to the Twin Cities in two weeks? It should be interesting.
Section 2, like Class AAAA could be another top section. Leading the way is the top seeded New Prague Trojans, followed by the second seeded Mankato East Cougars, the third seeded Marshall Tigers and the fourth seeded Willmar Cardinals. St. Peter is the site for this highly talented section final. Any of these teams can win it.
Section 3's top seed is the two time state champion DeLaSalle Islanders? head coach Faith Johnson Patterson won three state titles with Minneapolis North and she's looking to do it again with the Islanders. But first, they have to get through the section and deal with the second seeded Park Center Pirates and the third seeded Spring Lake Park Panthers.
For several years, Section 4 was dominated by the Hill-Murray Pioneers. This year, they are the second seed behind the top seeded Simley Spartans. Will they end the Pioneers reign or will Erin Herman's bunch return to state?
Going to Section 5, the Monticello Magic are the top seed. also contending are the second seeded Dassel-Cokato Chargers and the third seeded Delano Tigers.
Section 6 has the makings of an outstanding section with the Richfield Spartans, led by Jessica January occupying the number one seed. But look out for the second seeded Chaska Hawks, the third seeded Benilde-St. Margaret's Red Knights with Gopher recruit Grace Coughlin and the fourth seeded Waconia Wildcats. Who will play at The Barn? Take your pick.
In Section 7, the Chisago Lakes Wildcats, led by 6-5 junior center Bryanna Fernstrom are the top seed. Can the second seeded Grand Rapids Thunderhawks strike lightning or will the third seeded North Branch Vikings oust the Wildcats for a state tourney berth?
Wrapping up this section preview is Section 8, where the Fergus Falls Otters, the state's only unbeaten Class AAA team is the number one seed. Looking to prevent the Otters from heading down I-94 are the Alexandria Cardinals and the Thief River Falls Prowlers.
Class AA is next.
