Class AA boys basketball section preview

So far, the Class AAA & AAAA sections have been examined. Next up is Class AA.

In Section 1, defending AA champion Plainview-Elgin-Millville is still alive in the East subsection as well as the second seeded Caledonia Warriors. The Byron Bears and the Rochester Lourdes Eagles are the top remaining West subsection seeds.

The St. Peter Saints and the Maple River Eagles are the top two seeds in Section 2. Which one will head up Highway 169 to state? This potential championship game should be a good one.

It could be a battle of the Cardinals in Section 3 since the top two seeds have the same nickname, Redwood Valley and Fairmont. Also in the hunt are the Martin county West Mavericks and the Worthington Trojans.

The top seed in Section 4 is the Minnehaha Academy Redhawks. It could be an all Tri-Metro Conference final with the Breck Mustangs seeded second and the Concordia Academy-Roseville Beacons the third seed. A wide open section worth watching.

Going to Section 5, the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders and Jordan hubman are the top two subsection seeds. Can the Crusaders complete their crusade to state with a section title?

The top seed in Section 6 is the top ranked team in Class AA, the Melrose Dutchmen. Their last trip to state was 1974, when a guy named Mark Olberding led them to the state Class A title. They will have to get past the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters, Litchfield Dragons and New London-Spicer Wildcats to make the long, belated return to state.

The Virgina Blue Devils and the Mora Mustangs are the top two seeds in Section 7. But down count out the Braham Bombers, who lost to Mora in the regular season and probably hungry for a rematch.

Closing out the Class A preview is Section 8, with the Crosby-Ironton Rangers and the Hawley Nuggets the top seeds. Hawley, with one loss looks like the team to beat.

The Class A preview is next.
