Class A boys basketball section preview

The section boys basketball preview wraps up with the eight Class A sections.

In Section 1, the top two seeds in the East subsection, the Rushford-Peterson Trojans and the Lanesboro Burros are still alive. In the West subsection, lookout for the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms and the Bethlehem Academy Cardinals. It should be an interesting section.

Sleepy Eye St. Mary's and Mountain Lake are the top two seeds in Section 2. Mountain lake was a perennial power in the early one class era and looking to return since ending its consolidation with Butterfield-Odin. The Springfield Tigers are also in the hunt.

Section 3 has the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks and the SW Minnesota Christian Eagles as the top seeds. The Eagles only loss is to Sioux Falls Christian and they have not lost since then. They are one of the favorites to head to Minneapolis. The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights, who lost to SW MN Christian in the regular season could have a rematch in the finals.

It's a three team race in Section 4A, led by the top seeded and top ranked Class A team the Maranatha Mustangs. Two other MCAA schools could corral the mustangs high powered offense. The second seeded West Lutheran Warriors and the third seeded Heritage Christian Academy Eagles. Who will come out of this section? It's one to watch.

In Section 5, things are looking up for the Upsala Cardinals as they put their unbeaten record on the line for a state tournament berth. But first they'll have to get by the BrowervilleTigers and the Barnum Bombers.

Going to Section 6, where the defending Class A champion Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars are favored to head back to state. Things will be OK if they solve Henning and Ada-Borup.

Section 7 has the Bigfork Huskies and the Lakeview Christian Academy Lions as the top seeds. The Lions has the Brothers Broman, Anders and Bjorn. It could be your last chance to see Anders in action before he heads to South Dakota State next season.

The final section to be examined is Section 8, led by top seeds the Northern Freeze and the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves. Could the Leech Lake area celebrate a state tournament berth? First they have to get past the Mahnomen Indians and the Freeze.

There you have it. The four class section previews. Plenty of action coming up on the road to Minneapolis.
