The shocking news broke Tuesday night with media outlets buzzing that The Originals star Claire Holt will no longer be a series regular.

In The Originals, Holt plays Rebekah Mikaelson, an original vampire alongside her original brothers Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), who were introduced in The Vampire Diaries in 2011.

Holt’s final appearance “Farewell to Storyville” aired Tuesday, March 11, on The CW. During the episode, Rebekah said her goodbyes after being granted her freedom from her brother Klaus. She is last seen driving into the unknown.

THR reports that although Holt will no longer be part as one of the central figures on The Originals, she may appear as a guest star in future recurring arcs on the series, most likely as early into the second season.

The Originals centers on the Mikaelson siblings, otherwise known as the world's original vampires: Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah. Now Klaus must take down his protégé, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), who is now in charge of New Orleans, in order to re-take his city, as he originally built New Orleans. Klaus departed from the city after being chased down by his father Mikael, while it was being constructed and Marcel took charge. As Klaus has returned after many years, his ego has provoked him to become the king of the city. "Every King needs an heir" says Klaus, accepting the unborn child. The child is a first to be born to a hybrid (part vampire, part werewolf) and a werewolf.

The Originals air Tuesday nights on The CW.
