Claire Davis, the teenager that was shot at point-blank range in Colorado at Arapahoe High School, has died according to a statement released from Littleton Adventist Hospital on December 21, 2013. She was only 17 years old.
"It is with heavy hearts that we share that at 4:29 p.m. this afternoon, Claire Davis passed away, with her family at her side. Despite the best efforts of our physicians and nursing staff, and Claire's fighting spirit, her injuries were too severe and the most advanced medical treatments could not prevent this tragic loss of life. Claire's death is immensely heartbreaking for our entire community, our staff and our families."
Davis had been in critical condition after being shot on December 13. Karl Pierson, 18, was armed with a shotgun, Molotov cocktails, a machete, and ammunition. There does not appear to be a motive behind the shooting of Claire Davis according to Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson.
According to Huffington Post, Karl Pierson intended to kill librarian Tracy Murphy. Earlier in September, Pierson was disciplined for making threats against the librarian after the school librarian benched him from the debate team.
Karl Pierson fatally wounded Claire Davis and then killed himself one minute and 20 seconds after entering the high school.
