Claire Danes and Temple Grandin take home 2010 Emmy Awards
Actress Claire Danes was awarded the 2010 Emmy for her portrayal as Temple Grandin in the HBO original film.
Claire Danes' plays real life heroine Temple Grandin, a woman who revolutionizes practices for the humane treatment of livestock in cattle ranches and slaughterhouses.
The film debuted on HBO in February to rave reviews. "It is completely overwhelming," said Danes moments after winning the Emmy.
"It is just a very short period of time to say anything at all meaningful. Now I am fixated on everyone I missed. My husband (actor Hugh Dancy) for example. But it is very exciting and we won big." About the HBO film Temple Grandin and its story: "I was worried about it translating, but I am just so relieved that it did."
Who is Temple Grandin?
The real life Temple Grandin was in attendance to watch the biopic about her life receive praise. Grandin is a Doctor of Animal Science and a professor at Colorado State University. Temple is also a bestselling author, and consultant to the livestock industry for animal behavior. Grandin is a person with high-functioning autism. She is also well known for her work in autism advocacy and is the inventor of a hug machine designed to calm hypersensitive persons.
"I hope this movie is going to educate a lot of people about autism because there's a lot of people who don't understand it," Grandin revealed backstage at the Emmy Awards, reports the LA Times. "Somebody [with autism] might be a Silicon Valley genius, and somebody might be handicapped and non-verbal."
Other Emmy wins for 'Temple Grandin'
Claire Danes, Julia Ormond, David Straithairn, and Mick Jackson all took home awards for their part in 'Temple Grandin.' The movie as a whole also won an award as well making Temple the hit of the Emmy's with five wins.
Each of the individual award winners paid tribute to Temple Grandin in their acceptance speeches. Temple then joined the cast and crew on stage to accept the award for outstanding movie. She spoke and recognized her mother who was also in the audience.
