Since 1945, the Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar (located in the Fairmont Hotel on Nob Hill) has been keeping the Tiki bar and cocktail culture alive in San Francisco. Guests of the Tonga Room can catch a little island fever as they sip on cocktails like Hurricanes, Pina Coladas, Mai Tais, Zombies and Daiquiris and nibble on a variety of choices from the Pacific Rim comfort cuisine menu designed by Marc Passetti.
The Tonga Room is a place where both locals and tourists can reminisce about tropical vacations past as they listen to the house band perform from a boat in the middle of the lagoon, with the occasional tropical storm, complete with thunder and lightening. The Tonga Room’s dance floor was built using the remains of the S. S. Forester, a lumber schooner that used to travel between San Francisco and the South Sea Islands on a regular basis.
Last month, the Tonga Room hosted its first “Claim Your Fame” cocktail contest, which was featured on Facebook and Twitter. All participants that sent in their drink recipes received a coupon for a complimentary appetizer and were considered to be in the running for the grand prize: a “Taste of Tonga Party” on the Tonga Room’s VIP deck for 25 of their friends. The party included numerous appetizers from the menu, the first round of the winning cocktail on-the-house for each of the party’s guests, waived cover charges for everyone in the party and a shout out from the house band. The winning cocktail is also featured on the Tonga Room menu for an entire month.
The Tonga Room will be featuring the “Claim Your Fame” cocktail contest in the near future. To learn more about upcoming special offers, promotions, discounts and future contests, be sure to follow the Tonga Room on Twitter and Facebook and visit the Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar’s website.
