Civil War museum living history in Fort Worth genealogy March 11 - 16

All year: “Preserve the Pensions,” presented by the Federation of Genealogical Societies, the National Archives, and the genealogical community, to digitize War of 1812 pension files through 2015.

All year: The Arlington Public Library has a genealogy and local history department that includes a print and microfilm collection. Hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday. Address is 101 E. Abram St., 817-459-6900.

All year: The Euless Public Library has genealogy resources, including Fold3, formerly known as Footnote, which is an online military database, and Newsbank, which provides access to newspapers and other news sources. Hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday. Address is 201 N. Ector Drive, 817-685-1480.

All year: The Fort Worth Public Library houses an extensive genealogy collection and has software and reference material available for genealogists. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Address is 500 W. 3rd St., 817-392-7701.

All year: The Fort Worth Public Library publishes Genealogy Success Stories about local researchers and their genealogy discoveries. Scroll down this page to find individual stories published by the history and archives staff of the library. Read about Rita Martin, who found out she is related to Davy Crockett.

All year: Civil War Veterans Memorial, on property owned by Bedford Church of Christ, 2401 Bedford Road, Bedford, Texas 76021, next to historic Bedford Cemetery. Open from dawn to dusk, free admission. Park in west parking lot of church.

All year: Dallas Genealogical Society continues to add to its cemetery database.

March 11: The Euless Historical Preservation Committee meets the second Monday of every month at 10 a.m. in the City Hall Pre-Council Chamber, 201 N. Ector Drive, Euless.

March 11: Grapevine Namedroppers meet the second Monday of the month in the Presentation Room of the Grapevine Public Library located at 1201 Municipal Way, Grapevine,at 10:30 a.m. for local area support, questions and answers. These programs are free and open to anyone interested in learning how to find out about their family history.

March 12: The Arlington Genealogical Society meets the second Tuesday of months September through June at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Arlington Central Library, 101 E. Abram St.

March 12-16: Mansfield Historical Museum and Heritage Center, open 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesdays-Saturdays. In addition to providing exhibits, museum staff and volunteers can help patrons with genealogy. March 12-16: Military Museum of Fort Worth, open 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, 712 Dorothy Lane, Fort Worth, 76107. Admission is free. Closed major holidays. The museum focus is the military as it pertains to Texas veterans. The museum presents military artifacts and the stories about them in order to educate the public. March 12-16: Texas Civil War Museum is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, closed major holidays, 760 Jim Wright Freeway North, Fort Worth, 76108. Adult admission is $6, students ages 7-12 are $3 and children 6 and under are free with adult admission. This is the largest Civil War museum west of the Mississippi. March 13-16: Arlington Family History Center, 3809 Curt Drive, Arlington, 76016, 817-446-7088. Volunteers provide free genealogy assistance. Hours of operation are Wednesday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 6 p.m.-9 p.m., Thursday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

March 16: National Archives Fort Worth is open the third Saturday of every month, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Computers, microfilm machines, and free printing available. The NARA’s address is 2600 W. 7th St., Suite 162, 817-831-5620.

March 16: The Texas Civil War Museum will present living history as the 36th Texas Cavalry CSA (dismounted) has firing demonstrations on the front lawn from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

March 16: Dallas Genealogical Society presents, “Records, Research & Stories”, a one-day workshop at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library featuring Paula Stuart-Warren, a nationally known and recognized genealogical author, lecturer, and researcher. Registration still open. Through April 30, 2013: HOGAR de Dallas, a Spanish genealogical organization, will award one scholarship of $1,000 to a high school graduating senior who submits a pedigree chart and essay that follows the assigned criteria. Essay will be published in HOGAR journal.
